Litra

Terms of Use

Effective September 4, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Litra for the Litra iOS app and this website. Installing or using Litra means you accept them. They are also the end user licence agreement for the app.

1. What Litra is

Litra is a reading app for iPhone and iPad. It opens documents you provide — EPUB, PDF, FB2 and plain text — and reads them with typography, highlights, notes, on-device read-aloud and a guided speed-reading pacer. It also includes Orb, an assistant that answers questions about the document you have open by searching its text and passing the relevant parts to an AI model.

Litra is not a bookstore and not a library. We do not supply, sell, host or recommend books. Everything you read in Litra is a file you brought yourself.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Litra, and old enough in your country to enter into this agreement. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf. Use of the App Store is also subject to Apple's own terms.

3. Your licence

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Litra on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions. You may not sell, rent, sublicense, redistribute or share the app; and you may not copy, modify, decompile, reverse engineer or attempt to derive the source code of the app or our API, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.

4. Your account

Litra has no sign-up. On first launch it creates an anonymous account tied to your device Keychain and, where available, your iCloud account, so your subscription and credits follow you across your Apple devices and survive a reinstall. There is no password, so keep your device and your Apple ID secure — whoever can unlock your device can use your Litra account.

You can delete the account at any time with Delete My Data in the app. What that erases, and the two anti-abuse records that survive it, are described in the Privacy Policy.

5. Your books and your content

Your files stay yours. We claim no ownership of the documents you import or of the highlights, notes and chats you create. They live on your device and in your own private iCloud; we do not store them on our servers.

You grant us only the narrow, temporary permission needed to run the features you use: to process the text of a document in order to index it, and to send the passages Orb needs to an AI provider in order to answer your question. That permission exists for that purpose and no other. We do not train models on your content, and we do not sell or publish it. The full data path is set out in the Privacy Policy, section 5.

You are responsible for the files you import. By importing one you confirm that you own it, have licensed it, or otherwise have the right to use it in this way, and that using it in Litra does not infringe anyone's copyright or break a digital rights restriction. Do not import material that is unlawful to possess.

6. Orb, and what an AI answer is worth

Orb is a language model reading excerpts of your document. It is designed to ground its answers in the actual text, and it usually does — but language models get things wrong, miss context, and can state something false with complete confidence. Check anything that matters against the page.

Orb's answers are not professional advice. Do not rely on them for medical, legal, financial, tax, safety or other decisions where being wrong has a cost. Answers are generated per request and are not reviewed by us. Because generation is probabilistic, two readers can ask the same question and get different answers, and neither is guaranteed to be unique or original.

7. Subscription and free trial

Litra Pro is an auto-renewing annual subscription, US$49.99 per year or the equivalent in your local currency, sold through the App Store. New subscribers get a 7-day free trial, once per Apple ID.

8. Orb credits

Orb answers are metered in Orb credits. A credit is priced against what an answer actually costs us to produce, so a short question costs less than a long piece of research. A subscription includes an allowance of credits that refreshes over the life of the subscription. You can also top up with a credit pack — US$2.99, US$6.99 or US$17.99 — bought through the App Store.

9. Refunds

All purchases go through the App Store, so Apple handles refunds, not us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Consumable purchases such as credit packs are generally non-refundable once used, subject to Apple's policies and to any refund right you have under the consumer law of your country, which these terms do not take away. If something went wrong on our side, write to us at serartinfo@gmail.com and we will try to help, including by supporting your request to Apple.

10. Acceptable use

Do not:

11. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Litra running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Orb requires an internet connection and depends on third-party AI providers; reading, highlights and read-aloud work offline. We may add, change, or remove features, change which AI models are offered, or stop offering the service. If we discontinue a paid subscription service entirely, we will provide a pro-rated refund for the unused period, arranged through Apple where Apple's rules require it.

12. Termination

You can stop using Litra at any time by deleting the app, and delete your data with Delete My Data. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms — in particular section 10 — or if we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first. Sections 5, 6, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18 survive termination.

13. Our intellectual property

Litra, the Litra and Orb names and marks, the app, the website and everything in them apart from your own content are ours or our licensors', and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Nothing in these terms transfers any of it to you.

14. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Litra is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty as to the accuracy, completeness or reliability of anything Orb produces. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties; where that is the case, this section applies to you only to the extent permitted, and your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or the cost of substitute services, arising out of or relating to Litra — including reliance on an answer from Orb, or loss of documents, highlights or notes. Our total liability for any claim relating to Litra is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or US$50. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. Litra's sync uses your iCloud; we do not hold a copy we could restore from.

16. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of Litra, or content you imported that you had no right to use.

17. Apple-specific terms

Litra is distributed through the App Store, and Apple requires the following to form part of this agreement.

18. Governing law and disputes

If something goes wrong, write to serartinfo@gmail.com first — almost everything is faster to fix that way, and we will engage in good faith to resolve a dispute informally before either side starts formal proceedings.

These terms are governed by applicable law, and nothing in them removes the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, or your right to bring proceedings in your local courts where that law gives you one.

19. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The effective date at the top changes, and for a material change we will notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Litra after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, stop using the app and cancel any subscription. The current version always lives at trylitra.app/terms.
