Below are the questions we get asked most. If yours is not here, the email above is the fastest route.
Which files can Litra open?
- EPUB —
.epub. The main format, and the one most books come in. - PDF —
.pdf, including scanned ones. - FB2 —
.fb2, and zipped as.fb2.zipor.fbz, which is how most FB2 catalogues ship. - Plain text —
.txt,.md,.markdown.
You can also make a document without a file at all: scan printed pages with the camera, dictate or type a note, or paste text in.
Litra does not open DRM-protected files — a book bought in Apple Books, Kindle or Google
Play carries the store's protection and only that store's app can open it. It also does not
open .mobi, .azw, .djvu or Word documents. Converting
one to EPUB with a tool like Calibre works.
How do I add a book?
Tap the + button on the library, then pick where the text is coming from:
- Scan Pages — point the camera at a printed page. Litra recognises the text on the device and turns the scan into a readable document.
- EPUB / PDF / FB2 / Text — opens the iOS file picker, filtered to that format. It reaches anything in Files: On My iPhone, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or wherever else you keep books.
- Note — speak or type; it lands on the shelf as a document.
- Paste Text — for something you copied.
If you downloaded a book in Safari or received it by email, save it to Files first (Share → Save to Files), then add it from the picker.
After a book is added, Litra indexes it in the background so Orb can find things in it later. You can start reading immediately; a long book finishes indexing while you read.
What can Orb actually do?
Orb is the assistant inside the book. Tap the orb while reading and ask in your own words — by typing, or by holding it to speak. It searches the actual text of the document you have open and answers from what it finds, so it knows where you are and what you have read.
Things it is good at:
- "Who is this character again?" — after you put a book down for two weeks.
- "What did I miss in the last chapter?"
- "Explain this paragraph in plain language."
- "Where was the machine first mentioned?"
- "What are the notes I highlighted about the trial?"
It answers from your book, not from memory of the title — but it is still a language model and it can be wrong. Check anything that matters against the page. Do not use it for medical, legal or financial decisions.
What are Orb credits, and what uses them?
Orb credits are how Orb's work is metered. A credit is priced against what an answer really costs to produce, so a quick question costs less than a piece of research that reads half a chapter. A typical question is a handful of credits; the app shows your balance in your profile and tells you roughly how many questions it is worth.
Credits are spent by: asking Orb a question, dictating with the microphone, and choosing cloud recognition for a scanned page. They are not spent by reading, highlighting, taking notes, read-aloud, speed reading, or adding and indexing a book — a book you add costs you nothing.
A Litra Pro subscription includes an allowance that refreshes over the life of the subscription. If you run out before it refreshes, you can top up with a credit pack from your profile. Pack credits do not expire.
Does Litra work offline?
Mostly, yes. Everything about reading works with no connection at all: opening a book, turning pages, search, table of contents, highlights, notes, bookmarks, themes and fonts, speed reading, and read-aloud — the voices are bundled inside the app, not streamed.
What needs a connection: Orb (the models run in the cloud), dictation, cloud page recognition, and iCloud sync between your devices. Those controls tell you when they are unavailable rather than spinning forever.
Can Litra read a book aloud?
Yes. Read-aloud runs entirely on the device — no streaming, no connection needed, and nothing about the book leaves the phone to speak it. It follows along, highlighting the sentence being read, and the speed goes from half to triple. It keeps playing with the screen locked and works with the lock-screen controls.
Speed reading is separate: a pacer that walks the words in place on the page, at a words-per-minute rate you set, so you read faster with your own eyes instead of listening.
How do I cancel the free trial or my subscription?
Apple handles subscriptions, so cancelling happens on Apple's side:
- Open iOS Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Choose Litra, then Cancel Subscription.
Or go straight to apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or the current period ends, otherwise Apple charges the next one. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Refunds are Apple's too: reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong on our side, tell us and we will back up your request.
I got a new phone, or reinstalled. Where are my books and my subscription?
Litra has no login, so nothing has to be typed back in. On the new device:
- Books, highlights, notes and chats come back from your own iCloud, as long as the same Apple ID is signed in and iCloud Drive is on for Litra. A big library takes a few minutes to download.
- Your subscription comes back with Restore purchase on the paywall, or from your profile. It uses the App Store record for your Apple ID.
- Your Orb credits are on our server against your account, and come back with it.
If a purchase does not restore, check you are signed into the same Apple ID that bought it, then write to us with the date of purchase.
How do I delete everything?
Open your profile in the app and tap Delete My Data at the bottom. After two confirmations it erases your account on our server — including credits and their history — the app's iCloud database, and the books and app data on the device. It cannot be undone, and credits are not refunded.
It does not cancel a subscription; only Apple can do that, so cancel first if you mean to. Details of exactly what is erased, and the two anti-abuse records that deliberately survive, are in the Privacy Policy.
Something is broken. What do you need from me?
Email serartinfo@gmail.com with as much of this as you have:
- what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead;
- the device and iOS version (Settings → General → About);
- the Litra version, at the bottom of your profile;
- a screenshot or a screen recording — worth more than any description;
- for a problem with one book: the format and roughly how big the file is. Do not send us the book itself unless we ask.
Feature requests and complaints go to the same address, and we read all of them.
